Newborn sessions quickly became one of my favorites once I got comfortable photographing them. When I moved back to Mississippi from New York, I got a job working for a company that did newborn photos in the hospital. At first I was terrified, but I caught on quickly and fell head-over-heels in love with capturing these precious babes. They change so quickly, so I think it is so important to get some quality pictures of your newborn within the first 2-4 weeks.

I offer both Fresh 48 sessions in the hospital and in-home or studio newborn sessions. Fresh 48 sessions take place within the first 48 hours after birth and I typically like to schedule in-home or studio newborn sessions within the first two weeks after birth.

So, how does booking a newborn session work? For Fresh 48, you'll give me your due date to use a placeholder and we'll stay in touch between booking and birth! When the date gets closer, appoint someone to keep in contact with me so that I know when you go into the hospital, when you give birth, and they can talk with you about a time for me to come to the hospital.

For in-home/studio session, I'll pencil in a date a week or two after your due date. We'll stay in touch between the time you book me and when that sweet new baby arrives. After you've been home for a few days, I'll check in and see what kind of routine you're in, if you've established one yet. We can be totally flexible with time, but after a good feeding is always the best time to start photos so that baby is sleepy and full.

I have a selection of props and swaddles to choose from that I always bring with me. All swaddles are washed after a session in free & clear detergent, so it won't irritate baby's skin. I'm more than happy to use swaddles, outfits, and other props that you have. However, I do recommend switching outfits/swaddles a maximum of three times so we don't disturb that sweet little baby.

For newborn sessions in the studio, we'll follow the same process as above, except you'll bring baby to me! Be sure to pack all of the essentials (bottle, diapers, wipes, pacifier, extra clothes), and anything else you think might help baby be more comfortable. If you're bringing a sibling along, be sure to have something to entertain them as well if you plan on having them hangout for the duration.

The packages I offer for newborns are longer than any normal session. This is so that we have plenty of time to stop and change diapers, do an additional feeding, swap out outfits/swaddles, sooth baby if needed, and anything else that might arise. If there's one thing I've learned from newborn photography, it's that we are on the baby's schedule and we just have to go with their flow.

I would love to chat with you more about getting to capture your precious new addition to the family! I suggest inquiring about my availability for newborn sessions in the beginning of your third trimester- or earlier! The earlier you inquire, the greater the chances I'll be available. If you're ready to inquire now, you can fill out a contact form here. I can give you more information on packages and pricing, and answer any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you!

*Newborn sessions start at $350.*
