Having a studio of my own was a dream of mine for years. For the longest time, I only considered renting a space, but as the "she shed" trend became more and more popular, the idea of owning my own small studio sounded better and better, and a lot more manageable.
In April of 2023, I found a small shed that was exactly what I was wanting. It needed work of course, but I had a vision for what I wanted the space to look like. Below are pictures of what the inside looked like when I got it.
I knew I wanted to keep things natural and bright. I decided on doing white shiplap for three walls, and doing a light faux brick accent wall on the solid wall. I also knew I wanted the floors to be white, so I decided to go with a stained wood for the ceiling just to warm it up a bit!
We began renovations in May of 2023 and by November 2023, it was ready to use. I couldn't have done the renovation without my parents. They truly helped me turn this into my dream space! It's still somewhat of a work in progress, as I slowly figure out what works and what doesn't. And of course, it's fun to be able to add elements to it here and there!
I've been able to expand my prop collection and have a nice space to store everything. I even have space for a small dressing room, and have added a backdrop roller so that I have different options for my clients. And as another bonus, the studio has a beautiful outdoor location. I've had several families want a combination of outdoor and indoor, so it's nice to be able to easily accommodate to that request!
While the studio is somewhat small (12ft x 32 ft), it works for what I need it for. It's wonderful for newborn sessions, but I've also done small family sessions too and it's really nice to have when it's cold or raining. Below are some photos from some sessions that I've done at my studio.
